Kurapia planted in Cesar Chavez Park

The City of Long Beach planted Kurapia sod at the Cesar Chavez Park on the 27th of last month, in recognition of its low maintenance and low water usage. Kurapia should remain undisturbed for approximately a month so it can root. Once Kurapia roots firmly to the ground, anyone can sit or step on the turf, and enjoy the beautiful blooming flowers. We look forward to seeing you in the various outdoor events held there.

Kurapia at San Bernardino County Council

Now is the best time to see Kurapia flowers, which have been planted around the San Bernardino City Council building in January of this year after it was recognized to be of low maintenance and low water usage. They are tough enough to survive despite the heavy traffic. (Please see photo of the corner near the sidewalk)

Meet Kurapia at Earth Day Workshop

This weekend, the Community Environmental Council will host one of Santa Barbara's largest environmental events. The Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival will take place at Alameda Park on April 22nd & 23rd and Kurapia will be operating at booth #313, located next to the green car show. There is no admission fee.

We will be introducing our Low Water and Low Maintenance Turf Alternative; perfect for those living in Santa Barbara. Please come by our booth. We look forward to seeing you.

Desert Water Agency Recommends Kurapia

The Desert Water Agency is a not-for-profit government agency based in Palm Springs, CA that manages groundwater in the western Coachella Valley, and serves approximately 106,000 people.

Our second installation of Kurapia sod at a famous fast food burger chain in Torrance, CA!

The existing turf was replaced with drought tolerant Kurapia in order to help conserve water.

UC Riverside Field Day

At the UC Riverside Field Day held on Sept. 15, 2016, Dr. Jim Baird, UC ANR CE Associate Specialist, Dept. of Botany and Plant Sciences, UC Riverside, introduced Kurapia groundcover as a turf alternative and good option for severe drought conditions. Dr. Baird explained Kurapia’s characteristics, tolerance for drought due to its extensive root system, as well as options for weed management. Kurpia is a broadleaf and known as safe to grass herbicides. UC Riverside conducted a study on Kurapia’s tolerance to commonly used broadleaf herbicides, which can be viewed in detail in the Herbicide Tolerance Guidelines report. We will post updates later on Kurapia’s recovery from herbicide damage.

Wallace, a landscape contractor of Midwest Landscaping in Long Beach, California was interviewed and assisting the program professionally. Thanks to Gayle and Edward for introducing Kurapia to making better environment for our community!!
