Exceptional Drought Continues in Southern California

According to NASA’s Earth Observatory, exceptional drought continues in about 20% of California, with widespread drought in the southern part of the state.
Exceptional drought is classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor as a category D4, which is the highest of five categories of drought severity.
California has not experienced exceptional drought since at least 2000, and the long drought spell has left more than 100 million trees dead according to the U.S. Forest Service.
